Ms. Marvel… A Mutant?!

A sneaky new book that Marvel has announced has evaded me when I was doing my catalog round-ups, and honestly it’s such a momentous announcement that it requires it’s own announcement post! Keep a sharp eye out come late August for Ms. Marvel’s grand return to comics… as an X-Man!

What’s more than that, the series will be co-written by Sabir Pirzada (Dark Web: Ms. Marvel) and Iman Vellani, the very same actress who portrays Kamala Khan in the MCU! It’s definitely exciting to see Iman getting so in-touch with the current direction of Ms. Marvel!

On August 30th, Kamala Khan will star in a brand-new limited series called Ms. Marvel: the New Mutant! This book takes place after the tragic events of Amazing Spider-Man #26, and represents a bold, new direction for the character. Here’s a brief synopsis directly from Marvel.com;

“After being brought back via Krakoan Resurrection Technology, Kamala is shocked to learn she is mutant. But before she has a chance to come to terms with this revelation, the catastrophic FALL OF X will throw her world into chaos…and a secret mission on behalf of the X-Men.”

Personally, I quite like this direction for the character. To my knowledge, there’s nobody in the Marvel universe who already both an Inhuman and a Mutant, so this carves out an interesting place for her, as someone who’s a product of multiple rich cultures! I kind of suspected Ms. Marvel’s death in Amazing Spider-Man #26 was going somewhere; while I liked the story when I read it, I could tell it felt a little “limp” for a big send-off to a major Marvel character, especially someone who’s in the films right now. Turns out it was so she could be (surprisingly) resurrected on Krakoa, revealing that she’s been a Mutant all this time!

If you’d like to order your copy of Ms. Marvel: the New Mutant #1 when it comes out on August 30th, click the link below to go the PreviewsWORLD order page! Hurry, FOC for this book is July 30th!
